Regal Town Center Stadium 16 (Abandoned)

 

History 

Originally opened by Storey Theatres on May 23, 1986, featuring 8 screens. This location was one of the last cinemas opened under the Storey Theatre’s banner and equipped with state-of-the-art projection and sound.

 This Theatre sits right behind the Town Center at Cobb Mall which opened that same year on February 28, 1986. A Nearby Varistiy operates adjacent to the property as well.  At some point in the Early 90s, it was expanded from 8 Screens to 12 Screens.  

Regal acquired the cinema in 1999 and expanded it to 16 Screens, each with stadium seating, and the main entrance was moved to the west end of the multiplex.

On March 16, 2020, Regal Cinemas closed all 543 of its theaters in the United States indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, becoming the first theater chain in the United States to close all its theater locations as a result of the pandemic.

While most of Regal Cinemas reopened by August 21, 2020, this location remained closed indefinitely. It was officially later in October 2020 that the closure would be permanent and the Company began removing its signage.

Front Entrance

Upon arriving, the entire building has been boarded up, aside from a hole in the front entrance. The right side of the building appears to be partially flooded and I don't recommend walking on the East Side of the building. 

Main Hallway 

The corridors are really dark and relied on a flashlight to be able to see clearly. Each Auditorium Room had holes in the ceiling and severe water damage. 

For a Building to only be closed for 3 Years, this building has deteriorated pretty quick due to Vandals, Poor Maintenance of the Building, and Natural Disasters. 

In 2021, plans called for the building to be demolished and rezoned for a 350-unit Apartment Complex on the site, but as of Today, no further updates have yet to be published.
